Cool Kids Club
I met some pretty amazing women in my photography class last summer, the six of us call ourselves the cool kids club. We were in downtown Raleigh today to do some urban portrait shooting and found some amazing locations down at the end of West street. The photo above was taken by CKC member Erin. You can check out some of my shots on flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/katwalla/sets/72157612370419599/
Chocolate Cream Filled

Chocolate cakes filled with cream
I made these for my good friend Dana – we bartered a pedicure for cupcakes (I didn’t have to scrub anyone’s feet, so I think I got the better end of the deal). Not my personal favorite as I like neither chocolate cake nor whipped cream, but it was her choice! These babies are just my basic chocolate cake recipe, tops sliced off, a layer of whipped cream piped inside, and sprinkled with powdered sugar through a stencil for decoration.
Delinquent

Some light reading for book club Preview
December’s book club book was The World According to Garp. Just a little light holiday reading, right? We actually chose it because we were looking for a classic none of us had read before. The description paints it as a humorous coming of age story…really?? It’s kind of dark and disturbing. Needless to say, I was too busy reading Twilight over the holidays to get to Garp. After a last ditch effort over the weekend to get some of it read, I resorted to book club blasphemy – I watched the movie. Can’t say it was much better than the book, except it was kind of worth it to see John Lithgow playing a transsexual named Roberta.
Pooch

- Guinness with his Christmas “baby”
This is Guinness, my family’s 6 year old flatcoat/collie mix. I say “my family’s” because he’s only my dog when he’s doing something bad. This is the squeaky giraffe we gave him for Christmas, it was an instant favorite.
Train

Looking out the train window
I spent new years in Charlotte with my good friends Jessica and Bryan. I was so impressed with Charlotte, it just seemed to have a lot more going on than Raleigh. I rode the train back home on new year’s day – which was, for some reason, incredibly exciting for me. I rarely have the option to use public transportation, so I was pretty thrilled to be able to keep miles off my car and just sit back and read for 3 hours rather than having to deal with driving. I foresee many more train rides to Charlotte in 2009
Hello Blog!
Happy New Year! There are no words to describe how happy I am that it is 2009. This is going to be an amazing year, and I can’t wait for all the great things ahead of me. I am starting this blog as a home for my photo 365 project: a chronicle of the year through one photo a day. The goal is to improve my photography, help me to see everyday things in a new light. I’m not entirely sure I’ll make it to one photo a day, but I’ll give it my best shot! So that’s the cameras part. The cakes part? Oh – you’ll see.
